Den er kendt som den kirke i verden, der har flest konger og dronninger begravet: 21 konger og 18 dronninger. Kirken blev i 1995 optaget på UNESCOs Verdensarvsliste som det andet værk i Danmark.

From the palace yard, you step out into Cathedral Square, where you come to our proud UNESCO World Heritage Site, Roskilde Cathedral, with its many royal graves and side chapels.

Next you walk on to one of Roskildes many springs Maglekilde and then on down to the charming old harbour and fishing village of St Jørgensberg. The walk then takes you along the harbour to the Viking Ship Museum, where amongst other things you can see the five original Viking ships found on the bottom of Roskilde Fjord in the early 1960s.

From the harbour area, the walk now goes up through City Park to Roskilde Museum, where you can learn about the city’s entire history from its greatness in the Middle Ages to the Roskilde Festival.

The walk also takes you past Roskilde Convent, which has functioned both as a manor house and a home for unmarried ladies of rank, and today it has attractive town residences.

After the Convent, you continue up to Algade and on to Lützhøfts Købmandsgård, which is fitted out like a grocery store from the 1920s. Then it’s back to Stændertorvet, where you find the ruins of St Laurence Church under the square. An outline of the nave is still visible, but we warmly recommend a visit to the underground ruin to put the finishing touch on your walk!
